Mandolins in Brisbane (MIB) is Queensland’s foremost mandolin and guitar ensemble.
It comprises of two playing groups, the Queensland Mandolin Ensemble (QME) and Brisbane Mandolins.
Founded in Brisbane, Queensland in 1998, Mandolins In Brisbane plays a varied repertoire from renaissance to contemporary.
Both playing groups not only continue the well established traditions of mandolin music founded in Italy, but also performs classical, folk, bluegrass and popular music from across the globe.
Brisbane Mandolins is conducted by classical guitarist and musical director, Joel Woods.
The Queensland Mandolin Ensemble is lead by principal first mandolin player and group leader Marissa Carroll.
MIB rehearses on Monday nights at St Mary’s Church Hall on Main St at Kangaroo Point from 6.45pm.
Our groups inlcude enthusiastic players of mandolins, mandolas, mando cello, guitar and double bass.
Players audition for a role in QME and practice as needed for various performances throughout the year.
New players are always welcome to join our playing groups.
Violin players who wish to play the mandolin are especially welcome as the mandolin enjoys the same tuning as the violin.
